I love my customers

My customers really make me smile as I don’t think they realize what they say or how they sound when they ask the questions. I work for a communication company one that has cell services.
On this perticular call the customer called asking why her bill was so high. An elderly sweet foreign woman who just didn’t seem to understand much english or for that matter technology. “why she asked is my phone bill so high?” I went through all the normal questions normal lets see what it is and narrowed it down to one portion of her bill. OH I said, it seems as though you downloaded a ring tone or maybe a few of them. No she said I don’t have a computer Well you don’t need a computer, you do that right off your cell phone. No, she insisted she still didn’t have a computer!
I asked her well is this cell phone yours or did you get it for someone.
No it’s mine.
Does any one use it other then you?
Yes my grandson.
Well it sounds like he downloaded a few ring tones. She started screaming I have no computer.
I re-explained and said maybe you need to have your grandson explain how he did that because he did download the ring tone. Here is what he downloaded.
“are you smarter then a 5th grader. She quickly replied see I didn’t do that cause I only have a 4th grade education.
God love the old people if it wasn’t for them my day would not have a smile.

I worked for our dear State of Ohio in Youth Services(I
worked in the business office) and believe me trying to
explain things similiar to this story (my calls usually involved
trying to expain to the parents why their telephone bills were
so high) –the calls made from the youths to their parents were all collect — and you could not make the parents understand that when they accept the calls, they have to
pay for them. (Of course the more calls made, the more
profit (commission) the institution made. The type of call
described above is very typical when dealing with the public.
The story by royalb still has me laughing. I think that it
deserves an award for the best story of the day.
I like the story!
Love it!!!
Funny….. I too worked for a cell phone carrier and received a call from an eldery womand who said her phone wasnt working and she just got it the previous day. She said the previous day it worked fine. I spent 10 min with her on the phone troubleshooting and came up short. For some reason I thought to ask the obvious… “Ma’am, is your phone turned on?” She responded “What do you mean turned on? how do I know if it is turned on?” I asked her to describe to me what she sees on her screen, she said nothing and I verified with her that there was no activity (lights, sounds, picture). I then explained to her how to turn on the phone (press and hold red button) SHe then becomes very angry and starts yelling at me “why would I have to turn on the phone, I don’t have to turn on my house phone. I just pick it up and dial.”
In my opinion, before purchasing a cell phone you should know the basic operations of it, like on/off.
This is great! You’ve got the double whammy with someone who was ESL AND senior!
lol I got to agree with you the senior call do make me want to pull my hair out but they are a whole lot better then the call of the people thinking they know more about your job then you do but are still calling you for help and are telling you what need to be done. I do love my senior call a lot of them are just sweet old people who just need some to talk to them very simply and direct for them to understand it. I work for a cable comp. And I get put who have the new lcd hd tv and trying to expl to them how a hd tv working is like trying to tell a 2 year he needs to sit down. No matter how many times you say something they just wont get it. and when they do understand they will call back in hr. for the same problem
