Customer Who Desperately Needed Help

Years ago, I worked in a call center that answered inquiries from customers about our mail order pharmacy program. One day, I had a call from a young lady asking about getting medications from us. She took two medications: Synthroid and Prozac. The call started out fairly uneventful. However, this is how the conversation ended:
Customer: “To get my medications from you, I can just mail in my label from (national pharmacy), right?”
Me: “No you need to obtain new prescriptions from your doctor and mail them in.”
Customer: “OH MY GOD! That means I have to see my doctor?!?!”
Me: “Unfortunately, yes.”
Customer: “Well, now I’m going to have to see my doctor anyway to increase my dosage of Prozac, because now I’m all depressed!!!”

Excellent. She might be the mother in the old Rolling Stones song - “she goes running for the shelter of a mother’s little helper.”
